French Toast

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup/250ml of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of icing or caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • 150g of butter
  • 4 slices of bread

Directions

  1. Place the eggs, milk, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl and whisk.
  2. Heat a frying pan on medium-low and melt the butter. soak each slice of bread in the egg mixture all the way.
  3. Place the soaked bread in the pan and cook until golden brown. turn and cook the other side.
  4. Once cooked, transfer to a plate, top with a sprinkle of icing sugar and serve with your choice of toppings.

Notes

  • It’s important to cook on medium-low so the egg mixture cooks and sets, rather than cooking on high which will leave the inside raw by the time the outside is cooked.
  • Bacon, maple syrup, honeycomb butter, fresh berries, ice-cream or lemon and sugar are great toppings.
