Guacamole
Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
- 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped cilantro
Directions
- Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit. Scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl.
- Add the chopped red onion, jalapeño pepper, lime juice, garlic, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the avocado flesh.
- Use a fork to mash the ingredients together until you reach your desired consistency. Some people like their guacamole smooth, while others prefer it chunky.
- Stir in the chopped cilantro.
- Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips, on tacos, or as a dip for your favorite vegetables.
Notes
To prevent the guacamole from turning brown, sprinkle a little bit of lime juice on top of it and cover it with plastic wrap, making sure the wrap is pressed directly onto the surface of the guacamole. This will help to prevent air from reaching the avocado and causing it to oxidize.
